The fifth Ashes Test at The Oval is not the last match of this series – it’s additionally Trevor Bayliss’ game as England head coach.
Bayliss has observed England acquire a house Ashes series, rise to the top of the rankings and win their very first men’s World Cup.
But, England need to win at The Oval to draw on this Ashes series 2-2 and have had a period in the Test arena.
Bayliss spoke to BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew regarding the highs and lows of the tenure.
Australian Bayliss was appointed England head coach May 2015 and his show in charge was the home Ashes of the summer .
“The only way I could describe it [having an Aussie coaching against Australia] has been that it was like playing backyard cricket climbing upward.
“You played along your brothers and mates in the garden and it was dog eat dog, but when you’ve completed, or between innings, you hurried down the river and then went for a swim or got in your bikes as best mates.
“However, you played the sport as hard and as tough as you could do in order to find the bragging rights those guys and it was not any different back then or maybe in this collection.
“There is some men in the Australian team I know very well. They are attempting to win the game for their team as far as they possibly could and I’d prefer the England boys to acquire as much as possible too.”
One of Bayliss’ targets as head trainer was to overhaul England team .
“It was very much an attention. When I talked to [manager of cricket] Andrew Strauss, how England played they desired to flip that around and in the 2015 World Cup was not up to scratch, but Test cricket wasn’t only as big a focal point.
“It wasn’t as if we just pushed to the desktop and said white-ball has become the most essential. We knew this came up, this summer, using a home World Cup and also a home Ashes and also we desired to be in a position to win both.
“I mentioned to my wife before I return over for this summer, I’d like to win at least one of those decorations.”
England won their first men’s World Cup at July in an enthralling game against New Zealand, which saw that the trophy decided on the number of boundaries.
“Everything I thought of the next day was that I didn’t really realise how large a match or just how good a game that has been.
“If you’re actually involved with the game, you are sort of thinking of strategies or what we could and ought to be doing, you are not really considering their amusement value, what the lovers are visiting.
“But waking up the following morning and watching the response in my phone, and I likely got more messages 24 hours once I get in a complete calendar year!
“The lap of honor at Lord’s, it was excellent to see the smiles not just on the faces of those players and the management team, but the absolute delight on the faces of everyone in that crowd.
“It’s been fantastic to be involved with a World Cup win, but it is actually the players that deserve the accolades. They are the ones which have gone and done the work. I think as a coaching team and a management team supporting it, we are lucky to be involved inside and play such a close function with the men that have been in a position to venture out and take action.”
Bayliss is seen as a laid figure figure and continues to be criticised at times for what’s perceived as a training style
“Sometimes it is irked me a little bit when you see a number of that sort of press because they simply don’t know what happens.
“I also permit the coaches we use to perform their tasks and speak to some of the players also. It’s not like we don’t get together and explore each individual, the way the team is currently playing, but since the batting trainer or bowling coach, I let them get on and do their job.
“We get together and share what we might speak with the batters or even bowlers about but it’s the one message”
England have experienced an period in Test cricket on the previous four decades – they have not lost a home Test series however they were thrashed 4-0 from the Ashes in Australia and have been bowled out in New Zealand and the West Indies.
“The matter England cricket have to answer is, the wickets that we play on in four-day cricket – are they doing the work well enough so the players coming through are much better able to actually play with at the next level?
“There are a great deal of great tutors and administrators at the county level. As we’ve got here working with England, you speak to them, they have got the exact concerns.
“There are a great deal of talented players directly throughout the first and second division of county cricket. What type of conditions have we have to perform and how can we make it easier?
“They are the questions I think have got to be answered.”
